HARES AS TICK CARRIERS.

" The Auckland' provincial executive of : the Farmers' Union met last evening, Mr. C.' C. Munro presiding. -/ 'r A reply was received from the Dominion secretary to the Auckland branch's letter regarding hares as .tick-carriers. The letter stated that , hares were placed 'in the same category as rabbits, and placed under rabbit' boards. Hares were protected only in the Feilding district and some Mparts of the Wellington district. Anyone could thus destroy hares in tick areas. It was not thought likely that hares would crosS from tick to clean areas.! ' A letter from the Farmers' 1 Fertiliser Company stated that some farmers at Matamata complained; that only five : hours were allowed by railway authorities for unloading of trucks. It was thought the time was inadequate, and that it should bo extended to eight hours. Some members of the executive • thought the present regulations allowed for eight working hours. It was decided to ascertain the facta before taking any action. It was decided to recommend the Government to prohibit the importation of all stock from any country where the foot and mouth disease exists. With regard to the weighing of pigs at country railway stations, it was decided to urge thttt the-.Railway Department take control of all scales for the weighing of pigs, iv I Vlt was decided that Mr. O. H. Me- j Alpine, organising secretary, sihould visit the Northern Wairoa district as .soon as possible.
