CRY FOR MORE PEOPLE.
AUSTRALIA'S FIRST NEED. <■■■ " The abandonment of the Singapore base and the rejection of the preference proposals: by the Labour Government in Great Britain is as plan an indication as possible to Australians i that the British working man is tired of taxing himself to protect Australia, and to - keep ■ the Australian -working man ; in comparative , luxury." • Dr. Horsf all; talked to members ,of the Sydney Millions Club ; recently on "the White Australia ' policy, and the sentence quoted was: one of ■;his declarations of opinion. His argument 'was that 5£ millions of people could not expect to hold three million square miles of ;territory,, with a density of population one-twenty-fifth of the average for the rest of the world, without- their title being seriously challenged sooner or later. His remedy for Australia's lack' was ; a better organised immigration policy, and to organise such a policy he suggested the foundation of some Australia-wide body- or society for; the promotion of ; settlement, 5 which association should bo free from the trammels of party politics. ■
