WATERFRONT ROAD SCHEME.
CITY TO ST. HELISRS.
PLANS IN TAMAKI - WEST.
The project of a marine drive along the eastern waterfront from the city to St. Heliers was referred to by the chairman of the Tamaki West Road Board, Mr. M. G. McArthur, at the annual meeting of ratepayers. Such a drive, he considered, would prove one of Auckland's principal attractions.
So far as the road district wag concerned, the land required belonged to the public, except 12 small sections at Kohimararaa. It was hoped that, although tho loan proposal to purchase these was defeated, their acquisition would ultimately be • compassed. f • Legislation dealing with the project as agreed upon between the City Council and the board had been framed,, and, it was hoped, would be enacted during the coming session of Parliament. The Point England reserve was to become the property of the board. The proposed loan of £16150 for its purchase was rejected by ratepayers, but the owner of a large block of land on tho opposite side of the road had decided to purchase the reserve, ; include it in his subdivision scheme, and dedicate it to the board.
