TANGEROA BEFORE COURT. CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED MURDER. |"by TELEGRAPH.press association.] PALMERSTON NORTH. Monday. In •'the Police Court this morning Eruera. Tangeroa, -who, it was alleged, ghat at William Ross, farm manager, at Parewanui on Sunday, inflicting a bullet wound, was charged with attempting to murder Ross. Ho was remanded till May 7. A message from Wanganui on Sunday stated that the Maori, who was believed to be deranged, had an altercation with Mr. Ross, and fired three shots at him as he galloped away on horseback. The Maori was reported afterwards to have barricaded himself and to be firing at passers-by. A number of armed policemen went to the spot, only to find that the man had been arrested. The arresting constable wore a military overcoat, and the Maori, who was wearing a similar coat, came forward, saluted and was taken in charge.
