SKIDDED IN QUEEN STREET.

MOTOR STRIKES TRAM POLE

WELL-KNOWN JOCKEY'S MISHAP.

A niotor-car, owned and driven by Mr. Hector Gray, the well-known New Zealand jockey, skidded in Queen Street at about 9.30 o'clock last evening and struck and damaged the tramway pole at the foot of Wyndham Street. The car was coming up the street at a moderate pace, and when at the safety zone opposite the Herald office it skidded on the greasy surface. To prevent collision with the verandah posts, Mr. Cray hauled the car round and mounted the safety zone. The motor went iover the safety wjne and then struck the pole, breaking away the ironwork at its base. The car, in which beside Mr. Gray there were a lady and another man, sustained comparatively small damage. Both right-hand mudguards were slightly bent and the metal part of the step was broken. There was also apparently some other minor damage to the front of the motor. The car was able to proceed on its journey after a delay of a few minutes. )
