HUGE OVERPAYMENTS.
AMERICAN WAR CONTRACTS. WASHINGTON, April 5. The dismissal of Mr. Daugherty, late Attorney-General, has had a salutary effect on other departments, judging from the announcement of the Secretary for War, Mr. J. W. Weeks, to-day, that the Government was endeavouring to recover £8,400,000 overpayments on war contracts, notably aircraft. _ The sum of £2,000,000 is being claimed from the Lincoln Company. Other firms may be ruined by collections from them. Mr. Weeks made his statement to the Senate Committee which probably wdl keep secret the various documents he submitted for fear of disclosing important facts to the defendants.
