POLICE COURT NEWS.

BREACH OF PROHIBITION. MAINTENANCE OP FAMILY. A short sitting of the Police Court was held on Saturday before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M. Failure to maintain his wife and children, breach of a prohibition order, and drunkenness, were admitted by Robert Wotherspoon, aged 27. The magistrate inflicted a fine of £1 10s for the breach of prohibition and made an order for maintenance at the rate of £2 10s a week. MISCELLANEOUS OFFENCES. The use of obscene language was admitted by David Kelly, aged 27, who, however, denied having resisted arrest. A oonstable stated that with the assistance of a boon companion, accused had escaped from custody three times and had to be pursued. A fine of £5 was imposed for the obscene language, and £2 for resisting the constable. A nineteen-year-old youth, Albert Foster Smith, admitted having stolen £6 14s from a bedroom in a boarding house. Accused was remanded to appear for sentence next Thursday. Chief-Detective Cummings intimated that an additional charge of having stolen clothing valued at £46 17s from the shop of Mrs. A. McMillan at Rotorua, was to bo preferred against accused. Joseph Braslin, aged 44, who made his fourth appearance for drunkenness, admitted having a list of 23 previous convictions. "He is like a concertina, in and out all the time," said Senior-Sergeant Rawle. The magistrate inflicted a penalty of £3, in default seven days' imprisonment.
