HARD COURT TOURNAMENT.
HANDICAPS YIELD SURPRISES. - [BY TELEGRAPH. —PBESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Sunday. At tlrt) metropolitan hard court tournament, in the final of the men's doubles, the Wellington first pair, L. Prance and 1). G. France, now oppose G. N. Goldie and N. Wilson, last year's champions. In the semi-final of the ladies' singles, Miss. Williams beat Mrs. Brown; Mrs. G. Penlingtop. whose brilliant play has been a feature of the ladies' contests, defeated Mrs. Wilson. . In the doubles, Mesdames Wilson and Parkinson won the championship final by defeating Misses Lucena and Townsend. In the combined double, T. S. Williams and Mrs. Williams beat Ward and Mrs. Parkinson. The handicap matches yielded surprises. Williams (14) put out L.-France (owe 10). In the doubles, L. France and T. C. Ward went out to Lezard and Von Boirsum. In tl.'j ladies' doubles, Mesdames Parkinson and Wilson ('2) wore beaten by Misses Lucena and Townsend (20). who now meet Mesdames Penlington and Cook in the final. 'Ihe mixed doubles saw Leaard and Miss Harris (2.2) def'eat D. France and Mrs. Cook VBcr), by one less than their handicap. L. France and M<*s D. Howe are also in the semi-final in thia event.
