Negotiations have been proceeding for | the past week for a permit for the Wellj ington Pacing Club to hold a race meeti ing on the occasion of the visit of the Im- | perial Naval Squadron. The date suggested by a deputation of the club which waited on the Minister for Internal Affairs, is I Saturday, April 26. It is understood that objections have ! been entered by clubs against a permit i being granted to Wellington. One of these is from Auckland, as the Avondale Jockey Club is also holding a meeting on April 26. The matter was not finally decided this evening, but an announcement may be made to-morrow. An application has also been made to the Minister for a permit for a trotting meeting to be held in Christchurch while | the Squadron is at Lyttelton.
