MINISTER'S RESIGNATION.,
GOVERNMENT'S PROBLEM.

' The Minister for Home Affairs, Mr. Kevin O'Higgihs, announced in the jL/ail that the Minister for Defence, General R. Mulcahy, had resigned. The Government, he added, had demanded the resignation of Adjutant-General O'Sullivan, Chief of Staff, MteMahon, and Quartermaster-Gene-ral O'Muirthile.
The Minister stated that last night's siege was undertaken without the authority of, or consultation with, the Executive Council. The Government recognised that the present state of things, and the rejiignation of the Minister for Defence constituted a problem which needed the gravest deration. They hoped by the beginning of next week to be in. a position to tell the people the action they proposed to pursue in regard to the whole matter. It is understood that the President of the Dail, Mr. W. T. Cosgrave, is undertaing the duties of Minister for Defence.
