EXPANSION OF KRUPPS.
OPERATIONS IN SPAIN.
AVOIDING THE TREATY.
The secretary of the great German firm of Krupp, M. Duval, has completed arrangements for Krupp's to take over Spain's oldest engineering works, La ; Maquinista Terrestre y Maritima, which was established in 1855, and also-the Cardona dockyard. Both are situated in Barcelona, alongside the port. The Germans will supply the technical staff, and Spanish banks will subscribe the, capital for the necessary extensions. Messrs. Krupp will place immediately large orders for construction work which cannot be undertaken in Germany under the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. They will build steamers for the German South American lines, and construct locomotives for the Spanish railways. The Maquinista works employ 900 men, and have a capital of £800,000. The agreement is favourably received in Spain, and will relieve the unemployment due to the closing of other works. Steel plates will be obtained from the new Sagunto works, near Valencia.
