PARIS FASHIONS.
Skirts that reach only a couple of inches below the knee are the latest fashion sensation, says the London Daily Express. These ultra-short skirts, which recall the wiii-.UAiiv uwuc « w "- u swiw. k -k materials necessitated excessive abbreviation, have made their appearance at the advance spring shows in Paris. At these early displays mannequins dropped their customary glide and marched briskly into the show rooms wearing straight, scanty skirts which revealed the full stretch of leg from the knee to the ankle. . A more sweeping change from last season, when so many of the Pans houses were seeking to popularise skirts that touched the toes, could not be imagined. Some of the spring skirts look even shorter than they really are, because . they . form part of the new twopiece suits in whic'i the waist-line of the upper part reaches to the hips and so leaves only a few inches of skirt visible below. . . West End dressmakers who, with their clients, were entirely hostile to the efforts made last season by the Paris fashion creators to impose trailing skirt draperies en Englishwomen, are disposed to accept the edict of shorter skirts. .'.'For some time past London has favoured a shorter length than Paris, and the attempt to bring back really long skirts was an utter fiasco," said one leading London dressmaker. .-"•> "Provided the fashion is* not carried to the point of exaggeration— the modification of Paris modes is .an art that is understood in London—the probability; is that women will welcome .the short skirt style, especially with their tailor-mades.*'.
