BOUNTIFUL LUCERNE YIELDS
[BY TBI.P(jaAPH.—OWN COBRESPONDBOT TATTRANGA. Thursday.
The pastures in this district have never looked better than to-day. This is due to the rucent moist weather and accompanying high temperature, which has had a wonderful effect in promoting the growth of grass. The maize crops are very promising, and excellent grain yields are expected on the mainland farms and on Matakana and Motiti Islands. , The fine weather this week has been fully availed of by many farmers for the cutting and harvesting of lucerne. In many instances a fifth crop of the current season is how in the barn or stack. There will still! be another crop or. two of lucerne to gather before the cold weather sets..in. ; ■'■
The kumikumi and swede crops are very promising. ..*• Altogether the season has been a bountiful one f' the farming community, and settlers generally will face the coming winter with plentiful supplies of fodder, which should enable them to bring their cattle through in good condition fear the spring.;
