DEDICATION OF ROAD.
SETTLERS OFFER CONTRIBUTION.
The Avondale Borough Council met on V Wednesday. The Deputy-Mayor, Mr. J. . B. Clarke, presided, and there were also present: Messrs. A. E. Blackman, C. E. Fearon, J. V. Kiesterer, T. Wilson, H. '.. Potter, and W. J, Thompson. - Mr. C. Council drew the council's at- " tention to an, unsafe footbridge over the Whau Creek. A doubt was raised whether the bridge was under the jurisdiction of the council, as, it was stated, it <vas built by ■ a number of adjacent residents . for their own convenience. Further particulars are to be obtained. Mr. W. J. Tait wrote requesting the council to accept immediate dedication of a road on, Ferndale Park Estate, so that purchasers of sections could receive clear titles and commence building operations. He estimated that the work remaining to bo done would occupy about three weeks. It was resolved to agree to the proposal, provided Mr. Tait entered into a bond for £500 to complete the work to the satisfaction of the council's engineer. The district telegraph engineer, in reply to the council's .request for a slot telephone at the railway station, stated ,»■ that when the turn-over to automatic was made consideration would be given to tna request. « In reply to a request for information, the Waipukurau Borough Council wrote . that, after three years'/ experience, the workers' dwellings had been found to, be entirely satisfactory. There had i been no ; defaults in repayments. '"> The building inspector reported tli fit '.- during the past fortivht 14 permits ' had' ■ been granted. There were 18 houses in . course of erection. .The, Mayor, Mr. W. ', J. Tait, attended f. the latter part of the meeting, having been - at a meeting of the Auckland Drainage Board. He reported that a time limit of -, eight months»had been fixed for ; the construction of a main sewer at Avondale. a ? tender for ; which had been accepted that evening by the Drainage Board. The Mayor also reported that an inters view had taken place between members of toe council and Mr. Wyltie, engineer to - the Auckland Electric Power Foard, who" assured the council that . c ectricity, both for lighting and power, would be available in Avondale by October next. :It was resolved that telephone*,. installed; at the fire station and at the resi- : dence of the captain of the brigade. .
