CHINESE SOCCER TEAM.
VISIT TO THE DOMINION.
Not only adherents of the Soccer code, but the public generally, will be interested to learn that the visit of a Chinese Soccer team to New Zealand this year is assured, as the hon. secretary to the New Zealand Football Association, Mr. B. L. Salmon, has received a letter from the authorities in China that they are prepared to send a team to the Dominion provided the date of departure proposed by them, June 15, is acceptable to the New Zealand Council.
There is hardly the least likelihood of any objection being raised to the date of departure by any member of the council, as the principal anxiety has been to get a definite assurance that a team would come this season. There is not likely to be any difficulty regarding the terms and conditions, and the visit will be made* under the auspices of the council of tho N.Z.F.A. and the Y.M.C.A. Mr; A. Varney, general secretary to this New Zealand Y.M.C.A., has taken special interest in the proposed tour, and a good deal of credit is due to him that a definite undertaking has now been received.
-■The-., tour has great aspects, and it rs hoped that the New Zealand Association will benefit considerably financially, as its funds require supplementing in order to do anything like the amount of propaganda work which is required. It is also hoped to be able to engage a paid secretary, who will undertake "the vast amount of detail work in connection with the affairs of the association generally, leaving the honorary officials with more time to devote to the development and building up of the game from one end of the Dominion to the other.
