NEW WORKERS' HOMES.
EIGHT AT WESTERN SPRINGS.
MANX APPLICATIONS.
With the approaching completion of eight new workers' homes at Western Springs, the City Council is now awaiting final applications from prospective purchasers. Reporting to the council last evening, the city engineer, Mr. W. E. Bush, stated that the eight houses in question, situated in a new road abutting the Old Mill Road, were expected to bo completed within two weeks. On the recommendation of the works committee, it was resolved to invite applications for the purchase of the houses, the forms to be returnable on April 3. The amount of the deposit was fixed at £30, and a condition included that no transfer be allowed without the consent of the council.
It was decided to name ..the new road in which the houses are situated, West View Road.
Applications for the purchase of houses under the City Council's scheme have been coming in fairly freely for months past, and a large waiting list will be ready when applications finally close. The method by which the houses will be allotted has not yet been agreed upon, though the council on previous occasions has conducted a ballot for the selection of purchasers. ,
