NEW CIVIC SQUARE.
DISMANTLING OLD SHOPS.
- FULL CLEARANCE THIS YEAR
The Auckland City Council's staff of Workmen is making steady progress on the dismantling of the old shops on the site of the projected civic square north" of the Town Hall. About a dozen men are employed, and so far four buildings in the main block have been almost completely dismantled. The leases of the existing premises are rapidly running out, and it is anticipated that all the buildings will-have been taken down before the end of the year, when a start will be made on the construction of an attractive square right in (the heart of the, city.
