CITY ENGINEER'S SALARY.

J WELLINGTON, Tneauar The report of the committee appointed to investigate the working, of the Wellington city engineer's department contains a recommendation in regard to the filling of the vacancy caused by the death of - the late city engineer, Mr. W. H. . Morton. The Mayor, Mr. R. A. • Wright, M.P., has given notice to move at the meeting of the council next Thursday evening 'that applications bo invited in Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand for the position of city engineer at a salary of £1200 a year, rising by annual increments of £100 to a maximum of £1500 a "year. It is stipulated in the motion that applicants be under 40 years of age. It is probable that the motion, together with the committee's report, will bo deferred for discussion by a special meeting.
