THE NATIONAL MEETING. SHOOTING AT TRENTHAM. EXCELLENT CONDITIONS. "A DAY OF POSSIBLES." [BT TELEGRAPH. I'EESS ASSOCIATION.] TSENTHAM, Tuesday The National Rifle Association's meeting opened at Trentham to-day. The morning was occupied with , the service matches. After luncheon the men got down to work on the opening match of the service teams' championship. The opening event was seven shots at 300, 500, and 600 yards, and with almost perfect weather the shooting was good, W. H. West, late of Blenheim, who has made several bold bids for the championship, came out top with 102, his scores being 33, 35, and 34. West now shoots with the .Okawa Club. James, an ex-champion, ran him close with 100, compiled thus : —31—34, and two others—Carter (Linton), 3235—33, and Mills (Dunedin), 333433, kept him company. It was in fact, a day of possibles, several being registered besides those just enumerated. The results of the day's shooting were as follows:— ' *- Rapid and Snap Firing. It was won. by the Wanganui Rifle Club (Simmonds, Hudson, King, Hughes, and Soler) with a soore of 416.
