INTER-STATE TENNIS.
PATTERSON BEATS WILLARD BEST FORM DISPLAYED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 6.5 p.m.) ' SYDNEY. Feb. 24. The finals of the inter-State lawn tennis tournament were played yesterday, with the following results: — Singles.—Patterson (New South Wales) beat Willard, 6—4, 7—9, 6—2. 6—0.. Doubles.—Patterson and Schlesirger (New South Wales) beat Clemenger and Baker, 6—3, 6—2, 6—4. Ladies' Singles.—Miss Lance* i (New South Wales) beat Mrs. Molesworth (New South Wales), 6—2, B—6. >; : Ladies' Doubles.—Miss Lance and Mrs. Forbes Smith beat.Misses Lloyd and Gray (New South Wales), 6—2, 6—4. Patterson's play in the singles and doubles was up to his very best form, and free from his usual faults. Schlesinger also played fin©, sound tennis. The newspapers comment if Patterson can reproduce such form in the Davis Cup contest the Australians' chances of reaching the challenge round are rosy.
