ARRIVAL THIS MORNING.

DAY OF OFFICIAL EVENTS.

CITY FUNCTION AT NIGHT.

The Japanese naval squadron will arrive at Auckland from Wellington this morning and at 10.30 a.m., the Asama, Admiral Saito's flagship, and the Yakumo will berth at Prince's Wharf, the Iwatft dropping anchor in the stream, where she will remain until the squadron sails next Monday. „ 1 ~ Admiral Saito was unable to accept the invitation of the Prime Minister to come North by train, but a small party of officers were granted leave to make the journey. Mr. J. Hislop, Under-Secretary of the Internal Affairs Department, 13 officially conducting the party, who have visited the Waitomo Caves and the Kuakura State Farm, and will arrive this morning. Official calls and functions will occupy to-day. At 11 a.m. the Admiral will call upon His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral. and at 11.45 the Governor-General will return the call. At 12.15 p.m. the chairman of the Harbour Board, Mr. H. R. Mackenzie, will call on the Admiral; at 12.30 the Mayor, Mr. J. H. Gunson, will call, followed a quarter of an hour later by Colonel H. R. Potter, officer commanding the Northern District. The Admiral will have luncheon with the Consul for Japan. Mr. A. B. Roberton, and at 2.30 will return the Mayor's call, and then the call of the military representative. Prom 4 to 5 o'clock the Admiral will receive callers in public or semipublic positions, and at 8 p.m. a civic reception will be tendered by the Mayor and City Council in the Town Hall. During the afternoon numbers of the Japanese cadets will be taken to the Ellerslie Racecourse and the Zoo.

The remainder of the programme, which has been approved by the Government is as follows: — WEDNESDAY. 10 a.m., observation tramcars, Ellerslie racecourse and Zoo, for about 350 men; 10.30, Admiral returns call of chairman, Auckland Harbour Board; 11, GovernorGeneral receives and addresses cadets; 1.15 p.m., luncheon at Northern Club; 2 p.m., steamer to Motuihi for the cadets; 2.30, motor drive, city and suburbs. Admiral and officers; 8 p.m., Northern Boxing Association exhibition for the men, Town Hall; 8 p.m., dinner, Government House, Admiral and • "Seers. THURSDAY. 10 a.m. and 1.30 p.m., observation tramcars for the men. Ellerslie racecourse and Zoo, say 350 each trip; 10 a.m.» motor drive, city and suburbs, officers; 11 a.m., cars for 'the cadets to Maungakiekie Gates; luncheon at Maungakiekie at 1 p.m., and return therefrom 3 p.m.; 4 p.m.. garden party, Government House; 8 p.m., Admiral's dinner on board ship. FRIDAY. 10 a.m. and 1.30 p.m., observation tramcars, racecourse and Zoo, for men, say 350 each trip; afternoon, Admiral's "At Home"; 8 p.m.. Navy League function for men, Prince's Wharf. SATURDAY. Admiral, officers, and cadets leave for Rotorua; 9 a.m., 1000 men to Motuihi, returning to wharf 2 p.m.; 2 p.m., Otahuhu Trotting Club, Alexandra Park; 2.30, Boy Scouts' rally in Auckland Domain. SUNDAY. 10 a.m.. 1000 men go to Motuihi; Admiral, officers and cadets return from Rotorua. MONDAY. Ships depart. In addition to the above programme, the officers of the squadron are invited to play tennis on the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association's Stanley Street courts. The officers and men in uniform will be permitted the free use of the tramcars, public baths, and all institutions under the control of the City Council. PARTY IN THE WAIKATO. ENJOYABLE MOTOR TOUR. [BY TELEGRAPH. — CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Monday A parfy of five high officials from the Japanese Naval Squadron, accompanied by <Mr. J. Hislop, Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs, and Lieutenant E. T. Nave, Australian R.N., as liaison officer, spent this afternoon in Hamilton. They were met at Firankton by the Mayor, Mr. J. R. Fow, the town clerk and members of the borough council and after luncheon were motored round the Lake and thence to the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company's Factories, at Frankton. The party then inspected the Government Farm at Ruakura and the Glaxo Factory at Matangi. They also passed through Cambridge and were entertained ' aC dinner. They leave for Auckland by the Main Trunk to-morrow.

A VISIT TO WAITOMO. INSPECTION OF THE CAVES. [by telegraph.—press association.] TE KUITI, Monday. Visitors attending a chamber of commerce conference, together with the party of Japanese naval officers, were entertained by the, local chamber yesterday at Waitomo. The Japanese commanders were greatly impressed with the wonderful beauty of the caves, especially the Glow-worm Cave, which they saw at night.
