SECONDARY EDUCATION.
ADVANCE IN THE PROVINCE. ► LARGE INCREASE IN NUMBERS. The growing demand on the part of parents for secondary education for their children is reflected in greatly increased enrolments in several provincial schools under the Auckland Education Board. The . Hamilton technical school opened last Thursday with an enrolment of 187 last year. ' The increase will necessitate immediate extra provision both in accommodation and teaching staff. The secondary department of the Tan-, marunui district high school has opened the year with 86 pupils, a very large increase on any previous enrolment. About £7000 has recently been spent on buildings and equipment for the department. The latest increase will involve the appointment of an additional assistant teacher.
The Tauranga district) high school has also shared in the forward, movement, the roll number this year being 76.
