Saturday. •A, tennis tournament, under the shwpioeti of the Hamilton Tennis Association, wm held to-day. There was » largo attendance and an exhibition of fine tennis was given. Among the competitors were A. S. Sims, champion ' singles player of the Dominion, J. Laurenson, who held that title in 1923. and E. L; -Bartleet. ■■••?. There was some extremely pretty play in the singles set between A. S. Sims and Lauronson. Sims showed remarkable accuracy in placing the ball i.nd cutting the line on ? cross angle, while overhead smashes were <aurenson's strong point. The'match extended over only three sets. On the suggestion of his opponent, who is. also his medical adviser, Sims, who, has been indisposed for. some time, retired. The game then stood in favour of Laurenson with tihreo sets to one. ; , y The combined doubles also provided some clean and clever play. The game resulted in a win for Laurenson and Miss Wilkinson, who beat Bartleet and Mrs. Austin, 4—o. 6—l, B—7. . Swift, exciting tennis characterised the men's doubles, th(» volleys, rallies and clever exchanges winning th« admiration of the* spectators. The game ended in favour of Bartleet and Sims, who beat Laurenson and Gower, the scorns being 6—l. 9— 6—2.
INTER-OLUB MATCHES. • RESULTS ON SATURDAY. Inter-club matches undw. the auspices of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association were piayed on Saturday. The weather was brilliant, an*d good games were played in the respective grades. In A grade Parnell defeated Onehunga by seven games to five: in B grade Remuera defeated Aratonga by eight games to five; and in C grade Eden and Epsom beat Otahuhu by nine games to four. , ....
