WAITEMATA CLUB. MR. H. BUCK'S TROPHIES. The Waitemata Bonting Club rowed a set of trial fours on Saturdav afternoon for trophies presented by? Mr. H. Buck, a vicepresident. The water conditions were bod, as a northerly wind raised a rough sea. The rowing, under the conditions, was very good. Five crews completed. Starting was by mutual consent and Messrs. T. Goouall and F. Marshall acted as indues. The course was from the King's Wharf tc a point off the now reclamation, just beyond the clubhouae. In the first heat the crews were:- '.. Brooker, C. Read, C. C. Cairns, E. Blakely; C. ThompKon, N. Doubleday. W. Wilson, T. Impey. Just after the start Thompson's errw took the lead, and won easily. In the second heat jthe orews were:—W. Lowe, A.Mackay, J. Herd, T. Wilson; $. Shoreland, C. Hunt, A. Bryant, D. Corson. Shorel.and's crew held the lead at the halfdistance, Lowe then drew level and the crews raced on even terms until passing the reclamation. Shoreland's four again forged ahead and crossed the lire with a. canvas to spare. The semi-final drew the crews of . ThomDeon and Johnson to the starting line. An exciting race throughout ensued, Johnson getting the verdict bv one foot. The crews of Shoreland and Johnson met in the «final. After a (treat race Johnson took the lead in the final stage and won b? a narrow margin. The winners were:—J. Johnson, G. Collingson, Hyde, D. Smith. ST. GEORGE CLUB. The St. George Rowing Club on Saturday rowed the heats of trial fours for the Coates' Cup. In the first heat crews stroked by F. Hammond and W. Lamb met. Hammond's crow took the lead from .the start and, steadily improving their position, won comfortably The crews in the second heat were stroked by N. Butobart and K. Page. A closelycontested race was won by Page's crew by half a length. - The third heat crows were stroked by A. Lamb and R. Surman. A well-rowed race won by Lamb's crew by a length and a-balf. The St. George Club will hold an at homo next Saturday, when the final for the Coates' Cup will be rowod. The competing crews —F. Hammond. V. Hargrea.ves, K. W*lch, V. Dunne; ,K. Page. S. Wright. W. Spenslev. A. Short; S. Lamb, B. Walker.' M. McLoghlin, D. Grant. In addition to' the final an interesting sports programme will be decided.

THE SMITH SHIELD. The annual inter-club non-claps fours' race for the Smith Shield will be rowed next Saturday aiternoon. This race alwava provides a hard contest and, btsing under the control of the Waitemata Boating Club, will be rowed over a course provided by that club. ______ •• * EIGHT-OAR RACE. The annual eight-oar race inaugurated last year. by the Auckland 'Rowing Club, .will be rowed on Saturday. March 8. The Auckland Rowing Club has again placed Its two boats at the other club's disposal. In addition to the eight-oar, the annual pair-oar raoo for the Caro Cup will be dep cided. The remaining regattas for the season are: —Rangiriri, on March 1, and Ngaruawahia March'l7. The Wanganui Regatta on March 8 is attracting the attention of Auckland clubs and several crews intend competing.
