REFUGE FROM TAXATION.
HAPPY CHANNEL ISLAND. (.Received 4.50 p.m.) Sun. LONDON, Feb. 9. Major-General Sir W. Smith, Lieu-tenant-Governor of Jersey, where wealthy people are flocking to live for six montTis and a day in order to evade English taxation, has resigned because of the Islanders' refusal to contribute to the Imperial Exchequer. Taxation in England is £17 a head, and in Jersey only £3 7a.
