DRAMA OF THE SEA.
SMALLPOX-STRICKEN CREW. CAPTAIN AND COOK SAIL SHIP. A. and N.Z. LONDON, Feb. 8. A remarkable story of the sea is revealed by the arrival at Liverpool of the crew of a 100-ton sailing ship. When the vessel was en route from Oporto to Newfoundland, the whole of the crew, except the captain and the cook, were prostrated by smallpox. Simultaneously a terrific storm broke out. For a fortnight the captain and the cook handled the ship unaided. The sails and rudder were torn away. The vessel was leaking and about to founder when a steamer sighted her and rescued the crew.
