BITTER AMERICAN WINTER.
DEATH-DEALING BLIZZARDS
SNOW IN SOUTHERN STATES.
FLORIDA FEELS THE COLD.
By Telegraph. Association—Copyright. A. and N.Z. CHICAGO, Dec. 14.
Twelve people were frozen to death in a snow storm which swept the entire south-west, where the climate is serni-tropi-cal and snow is rare.
The blizzard, accompanied by high winds, did most damage in Texas and New Mexico, halting rail and motor traffic and disrupting communications.
Rescue parties were organised to dig out 72 snow-bound motor-cars, containing over 300 passengers who were stranded for 12 hours.
Meanwhile a severe cold wave is progressing eastward, penetrating even Florida, which, is a renowned winter resort.
