NEW AMERICAN GUNS. RANGE OF 30,000 FEET. A, and N.Z. WASHINGTON, Nov. 23. The Department of War announces the perfecting of a 50-calibre machine-gun for the destruction of aircraft. It will fire 500 shots per minute with a perpendicular range of from JOOOft. to 12,000 ft. A new 37-millimetre anti-aircraft gun will fire 120 shots a minute, and has a perpendicular range of 14,000 ft. This weapon fires shells with such delicately adjusted fuses that they explode upon contact with a balloon cloth. The department is now testing another <*nti-aircraft gun ~ith a perpendicular range of 30,000 ft. This weapon is considered the newest and most powerful protection against aircraft yet devised.
