CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS. NORTH SHORE •SCORES '401. PONSONBY 372 FOR SIX WICKETS. . J} ■ ' ;■'.-;•; /■ SMITH 104, BURTON 103. The club championship competitions under the auspices of the Auckland Cricket Association were played on Saturday. The weather was fine but boisterous, and the wickets were in good order, with fast outfields. The conditions generally were favourable, and good cricket, with high scoring, was recorded. The North Shore Club compiled the high score of 401 ruris in the first innings against Eden on a Devonport ground, where the wicket was favourable for rungetting. All the eleven reached double figures, the highest scorer being Scott, with 73. Woodr; ; .'9 was next with 70, while Frater scored 43, C. Dacre 41, and Nettleton 36. Ail the Eden players, with the exception of the wicket-keeper, were tried at the bowling crease. The best figures were those of Cooper, who took five wickets for 120 runs. . Another high-scoring game was that put up by Ponsonby against Parnell on No.. I wicket at Eden Park. The team remained at the crease all the afternoon, and at the drawing of stumps had compiled 372 runs for the loss of six wickets. The best batting performance was thnt of S. G. Smith, *vho played a fine innings for 104 runs T>eiore being caught in the out-field. He scored with crisp strokes on both sides of the wicket keeping the. ball along the turf, and never giving a chance. Burton, the ex-Wellington representative, also gave a good display of batting in scoring 103 runs. He snowed greatly improved form, and while he gave two chances his innings was a fine one. Sneddon batted well for 39. Bass 31 (not out) and Neild 35 (not out) also played good cricket.

University, weakened by the absence of Garrard, the, ex-New Zealand representative, made a poor showing against Grafton, being dismissed for the poor total of 59 runs. Goodacre 28 and Metge 11 were the only batsmen to reach double figures. The bowling of Allcott wasTirilliant, the lefthander securing seven wickets for 21 runs. Grafton improved on the University total, scoring 167 runs, but three batsmen were mainly responsible, Alloott, with 79 runs, compiled in a fine innings, Snedden 26 and Horspool 22 alone showing form. Goodwin was the most successful bowler for University, taking three wickets for 24 runs
