INCIDENTAL PAYMENTS.

Hitherto a sum of £12 10s per student per year has been paid by the Government v for the " cleaning, care and /maintenance" of secondary schools. An Order-. in-Council , now limits the ends to which this "appropriation may be utilised. The first call to be made on it' is, salaries, office and travelling ' expenses, legal fees, school material, printing and advertising, cleaning, sanitation, lighting, heating, water supply, care and improvement of school grounds, and school libraries. After 'these provisions have been met payment may be made by way of subsidy on contributions from parents and others for the purcliase or material and apparatus for the encouragement of organised school games; No part of the appropriation may be utilised for prizes.
