PLAYING AREA WANTED.
STANLEY BAY REQUIREMENTS Provision of playing areas at Stanley Bay was urged upon the Devonport Borough Council last evening by a deputation from the Stanley Bay Improvement Association. The speakers, Messrs. Gentles and Dawsou, asked for assistance to enable a portion of the eight-acre reclamation at Stanley Bay to be foraH into two tennis courts, a cricket fioiU, and a hockey ground. The deputation proposed that the ground should be raised One foot above its present level, and to devote for this purpose part of a £450 vote which was to be used for the erection of a stone wall on the sea side of the reclamation. The Mayor, Mr. T. Lamont, said the council was in entire sympathy with the scheme. Even a partial scheme would need 2000 loads of filling. The deputation suggested dumping 1000 benzine containers filled' with earth by children from all over the borough, the council to cart the filled tins. The Mayor said the residents could take as much earth as they could move from the quarry. * The Works Committee was instructed to see if any reading work could be done at the Stanley Bay end to provide filling, and to meet the residents next Tuesday afternoon.
