TIMBER IN CALIFORNIA.
MANY UNFULFILLED ORDERS.
RESULT OF LATE FIRES.

DUJvEDIN. Wednesday.
Writing to their local agents, the Bruce Railway and Coal Co., under date September 20, Messrs, J. J. Moore 'and 00, of San Francisco, state that the Douglas Fir Co. is at least 14,000,000 ft. to 15,000,000 ft. behind on their orders, and that they have only a few, million feet of timber available against the orders. The writers continue"The Japan disaster, pins the heavy fires that have been raging in California during the past week or 10 days, have precluded all possibility of lower prices. In fact we look for a sharp advance to take " place, not only in the export but in the local market. In Berkeley, California, at least nine s square miles of dwellings were razed to the ground. There were at least £00 homes burned in the fires throughout the whole of California."
