NEWMARKET BOROUGH.
The Newmarket Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. S. Donaldson, presiding.'- ' When the half-yearly statement was presented,_ Mr. W. Sawbridge suggested that in view of the overdraft the rates should be colled/gd on the due date, December, 14, and the month's grace should not be allowed. It was decided to call the City Council's attention to the state of portions of Gillies Avenue. ••'.'.". ' The; formation of a rockery around the reserve in Newmarket was decided upon. The engineer, Mr. A. Greville Walker, reported that he did not think the council was liable for the full amount of £193 charged by the Auckland Electric Power Board for alterations to mains. The board had, in his opinion, moved some of its cables to suit its own convenience.
