In response to the call in England fori examining . veterinary surgeons:; for work ; under the ""New Zealand Department' of Agriculture, there were 18 applications. The four positions to be filled command a salary of £400 a year, rising to £495 withregulation, travelling allowances of half salary during the voyage to the Dominion, i with /first-class passages for single men, and £150 towards the passage money of married men; The applications- were considered by the High Commissioner .'and' the; Secretary to the Department,. Mr. A.. Grabb, and 'a; number of -applicants were personally : interviewed, v with J the resulV that three were chosen. v The "fourth post has been filled by an Australian. The three surgeons appointed are Mr. Dudley Gill (Blandford, ; Dorset), Mr. C. V. Dayus (Craven Arms, Shropshire), and Mr. ; Peter McGregor (Colchester), v-, 7j Mr. Gill, who is 23 years; of age, V has acted as assistant locum tenens to veterinary surgeons in various. parts ■ ; of England. Ho gained practical experience, in meat inspection while training.at Edenburgh, and last June he obtained his dip-; loma ■': in Veterinary state medicine.;•',•'; Mr. McGregor, whose age is 35, was an assistant in a general practice;, at:. Colchester. ;He;has r acted* as ; inspector of the diseases of animals % for three years on the Police Division of Kenilworth and Southam, Warwickshire. Mr. Dayns has been in private practice and • has -held appointments under the Ministry of Agriculture and the Country Council of Shropshire. ; Members \of his" family' have .been veterinary surgeons for three generations.',
