WAR MEMORIAL TOWER.

DEDICATION AT ST. ALBANS. ', ' / - \ —__ . .CEREMONY 'BY THE BISHOP. :'t• The memorial tower, which has < been erected: at St. Albans "■ Church, Dominion Road, as a tribute- to the men from the parish who fell in, the Great War, was dedicated I yesterday afternoon by Bishop ; Averill. There was a large gathering, and the service was most impressive. r_ b ■ . The tower, which, is a worthy memorial to the men •; who ; fell, is the ... fourth addition to the church in recent years. : It is in the Norman style of architecture and contains .three rooms; the lower one of which will be used as a "chapel, and the upper one as, a belfry .-: when a boll is available later on. The structure enhances the appearance of the church to a considerable extent. ' ' . f Speaking on the text Psalm 61, 3: "For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy," Bishop AVerM said that in dedicating the memorial tower, their minds were carried- back to the days of, the Great War. If God had not been on our side we should have had the bitter experience of defeat. God had indeed proved a' strong tower of refuge and the " present memorial, he thought, was a most suitable one. As the tower .added, strength to the church, so God, the solid rock, added strength to our lives. We spoke of those who had laid down their lives as being dead, but they were all part of the great invisible host and their message to us was: " .Carry on and consolidate our work. So should we be able to emerge' from the dark days of the aftermath of the war. The vicar of St. Albans, the Rev. H. B. Wingfield. assisted at the service. The St. Albans troop of boy scouts were present, with the colours. The service concluded with the National Anthem.
