CHANGEABLE WEEK-END.
HEAVY SHOWERS IN THE CITY. WIND CAUSES . HIGH v TIDES. The weather at Auckland during the week-end was very changeable, and at times very wet. On Saturday, which was fine, the wind was light and variable in the morning, but freshened up from tho eastward in the afternoon, when- the sky became dull and overcast. Rain began to fall at midnight, and showery conditions continued until yesterday afternoon. The rain fell heavily at times, one severe shower which started shortly before 3 p.m. lasting about half an hour. The wind then changed to the west, and the rain ceased. Last night the sky was dull and threatening in the west, where there was a continuous displav of sheet lightning. The. easterly wind 'dating the latter part of the week affected the tides considerably, and they were exceptionally hrfdh yesterday. The rainfall for the 48 hours ended midnight, as registered by the Herald gauge was .29in. The barometer, which registered 30.10 in. at mid-day on Saturday, fell to 29.75 in. by 2 p.m. yesterday. It remained practically steady at the latter reading until 10 o'clock last night, when it began < to fall.'
