NORTH VERSUS SOUTH.
QUESTION OF .....PRIVILEGE'S. Mr. "A. V. Pettmari, "Waimamuku, Hokianga, writes. —" It has recently been stated that Auckland gets more than its due of public expenditure. Seeing that the province is now being developed (as witness the output Of butter and cheese, representing nearly 50 per cent of the total butter-fat output of New Zealand) are wo not entitled to as much help in all ways as the. South Island has received in the past? I- would call your attention to one.particular case, that of the sale of pedigree stock at the Government Experimental Farm, Weraroa. The advertisement says that South Island buyers will have Buch stock delivered to them free- on wharf at Lyttelton. Why, is this concession to South Island buyers only? Why. not to the North Cape? The North has been and is still bearing burdens and disabilities unknown to the South. such as the 'Maori land and undeveloped Crown lands which contribute nothing to the making or upkeep of roads absolutely necessary, and heavy cost of transport whether by land or water, without shouldering more in the form of South Island railway deficits and the cost of "moving stock from Levin to Lyttelton Wharf.
