COUNCIL'S ANNUAL REPORT.
MATTERS OF. MOMENT.
The annual meeting of the Council of Christian Congregations was hel? on Monday evening. The Rev. 0. J. Tockcr presided. " . > The annual report stated that it was intended to distribute a ' report on the social evil question through the churches." Reference was made to the fact that several Auckland churches had noti joined the organisation. The report stated that the council was composed of representatives " of all the Protestant churches." It was pointed out that the Unitarian Church had not been admitted to membership, and the reply was that this church had been informed that the council was open to representatives of all churches acknowledging the divinity of Christ. The report was adopted after the words "Christian churches" had been subsituted for ' Protestant churches."
The chairman stated that only 26 congregations had affiliated to the council, and he expressed the hope that more would join during the coming year. He suggested that a special meeting be held to consider the question of church union. He also referred to the totalisator question, and said the increase in the number of country meetings permitted ,to hold meetings at Ellerslie last season was a matter for concern. Officers were elected as —President, Principal Laws; vice-presidents, Bishop Averill, Rev. F. W. Young and Mr. C. H. Furness; treasurer. Mr. C. Hudson; general secretary and corresponding secretary (to be appointed); executive, Revs. H. J. Ralp. J. A. T.ochore, G. Gordon, BMI, J. Wilkinson, D, G. Herron, W. S. Potter, A., Clark, C. J. Tocker, Dr. Ranston, ■ Messrs. ,E. Gill,' J. Brook, Field, C. F. Bennett, J. W. Court, Lee, J. P. Hootori," H. Dearsley, H. P. Caughey,- and G. Brownlee.
