Chief-Detective •.£ Mcllveney is well known in Christchurcu, having held .the position ,of chief detec- ■ tive here for some time. • _ 1 ~ - Superintendent Sheehan joined the police force in January 6, 1879. For three or,-0-four years he was in the Armed Consta- \ bulary. In 1882 he Was transferred to,- , the ordinary police, and for a time was stationed at Tirnaru. Later he served at Qroymoutlt, Wellington, Auckland, ' T« - Kuiti, Whangarei, ;• Christchurch, Wiihi, and- Hamilton. He was longest stationed;.; 7, at Whangarei,. where he commenced hIS ! ' duties m ISQI. He was transferred to Christchurch with the rank of sergeant. After being in Christchurch for two years'p he was sent to W&ihi, and some ' s&ven • years after he was promoted to the yank • > of sub-inspector, and transferred to Wei- • v. lington, where he remained four years. . His next move was to Tima.ru, and after,; being there nine months he was promoted to the rank of inspector and transferred : j to Auckland. His next shift was to Ham- . ilton; and from there, about 18 months ago, he was transferred to Christchurch with the rank of superintendent.
