A sensational ? affair in h which a Maori, suspected ■ of thefts from a shop, 1 was captured, escaped, \ and recaptured, occurrud at Te Kuiti during the week-end. The', first incident occurred ; early on Saturday morning. Constable Marks had been : stationed in the ? shop to see ■• if he could discover < the perpetrator of repeated theits during the past few weeks. He heard a ! key inserted in the front door and shortly afterwards a ' Maori appeared and went to the safe. The constable overpowered hiin after a struggle.
