A BANKRUPT'S AFFAIRS.

ECHO OF LIBEL ACTION.

After a lapse of 12 months the affairs in bankruptcy of Henry James Hansen, of Union Street, ' Newmarket, were furthe investigated yesterday before the official assignee, Mr. W. S. Fisher. Some unusual circumstances were revealed, it being stated that the sole creditors were two Syrians who obtained damage against him for libel two years ago. Mr. Sullivan, who appeared for tho creditors, said the two judgments were for £517, but an, amount of £42 had been paid. Replying to him the bankrupt said he was at present receiving £4 16s a week as an engine-driver, but was not, able to save anything. He could not remember the name of the. person to whom he sold-his bee business in March, 1821. Questioned at length regarding various payments in 1921 the bankrupt said his solicitor received £105. A total of £64 was drawn from the Auckland Savings Bank between August 7 and August 23, 1921, and the bankrupt said £28 of this went to the solicitor. Mr. Sullivan said that according to a previous statement by the bankrupt he had paid the solicitor before August. He asked him to explain other items, and, maintained that the position was unsatisfactory, and that further information should be given in justice to his clients.
