BRANDING FERTILISERS.
REPLY BY DEPARTMENT.
The Masterton executive of tho Farmers' Union recently made representations to the Department of Agriculture with reference to fertilisers. In tho course of a reply, the depart- ■• ment stated that owing to the short duralion of tho session of Parliament it was impossible to give effect, to any of the amendments. In regard to the branding of the bags, it was not considered practicable to brand a large amount of information on a bag, but tho department sug- . gested that tho bags be labelled or tagged. The proposal to limit the word " guano " to fertilisers containing at least 1 per „■ cent, of nitrogen was not desirable.
