TRAGIC END OF ROMANCE.
• LOVERS DIE TOGETHER. A. and N.Z. HOME, Aug. 5. Angelo Quarto, a well-known brigand, was sentenced to 40 years' imprisonment 29 years ago in Sardinia. •„ During his parole periods ,he met Donna Ignazia ~ Mandris, daughter of a local landowner. They carried on a clandestine attachment. Quarto was recently pardoned and released, and went to the girl's house and asked her hand in marriage. The parents, who were shocked, refused. .'■. The same night the girl smuggled Quarto into her room. The next morning the couple barricaded the door, and refused to be ejected, and fired upon the police with revolvers, wounding one. When the door was forced Quarto was found shot dead, and Donna Ignazia fatally wounded.
