FOUR DEATHS REPORTED.

Fourteen cases of pneumonic influenza were notified to the medical officer of health, Dr. T., J. Hughes, during the week-end. Four of these occurred in the city, three in the suburbs, and seven in the country. Four deaths were reported, two from the city, one from the suburbs, and one from the country. The. total number of cases for the ; month is 32, and of deaths nine. v_ Despite the increase in the number of oases reported the position generally appears to show signs of improvement. Eight operators were away yesterday in the telephone exchange, out of a staff of about 130. The tramway services were not affected, as very few of the staff were away. The position in the schools is said to show considerable improvement. At the Auckland Grammar School 50 pupils were' absent out" of a normal attendance of 800. This was only about a third of the number of absentees a short time ago. At the Howe Street school 60 were away out of 520, while, at other schools the position showed a similar improvement. -.
