MUNICIPAL HOUSING.
WESTERN SPRINGS SCHEME.
LENDERS FOR 50 BUILDINGS.
ALTERNATIVE DESIGNS INVITED.
The City Council is calling tenders for the erection of 50 cottages at the Western Springs reserve as part of the housebuilding policy upon which it has resolved. In this connection, a premium of £30 is offered for alternative designs of cottages affording substantially the same accommodation as those set out in the plans and specifications, already prepared, y ' The Mayor, Mr. J. H. Gunson, stated yesterday that this invitation should provide good competition, and at the same time put the council in possession of a good deal of information. There was no doubt the council would go on with the scheme, and it only depended on the design and the cost. The council had yet to determine whether it would issue its own loan to cover the cost. This, however, would depend on the Prime Minister's response to the representations made on behalf of the city, .which were now being considered by the Government.
