SEQUEL TO RECENT COLD SPELL.

Inquiries, made yesterday \V among;', the Auckland , coal morchants elicited tho information that household coal is in very short supply. A shortage is, '■ however, not unusual at this time 'of the ywar, and a prolonged spell of cold weather such as that recently experienced invariably results in a depletion of the coal stocks. The output of the Huntly mines has fallen considerably below normal lately owing to the prevalence of influenza among the miners. It is expected that the position will soon be improved, as several shipments of Newcastle coal are due at Auckland before the end of this month. These arrivals will relieve the heavy demand on local domestic coals.
