TE PUKE AND ROTORUA.
ROAD AND RAILWAY LINKS. [BY TELEGRAPH.— COBBESPONDEOT.] TE PUKE. Tuesday. A meeting of ratepayers was held today, Mr. H. J. Gill presiding, when th© question ,of a main ; road from this district to Rotorua was discussed. Reference was made to the proposal of!. the Government to construct a metalled road from Rotorua to Tauranga, via Pye's Pah Road. It was stated by several speakers that this road could i be connected with Tematai Road, and thus provide a good serviceable route to Rotorua, Messrs. Mundt, Lalley,. Morton and King urged that support should be given to a road via Paengaroa as; suggested by the recent conference of county councils. It was agreed/ to support the Paengaroa' to Rotorua connection as a primary road under the Highways Act. The advisability of pressing forward the claim for railway connection with Rotorua was discussed, and it was decided to urge the Government to authorise a railway. between Rotorua and the East Coast railway to: junction at a. point' in the vicinity of Paengaroa, and that Mr. .R. King be asked to place this matter before the Prime Minister in Wellington.
