THE STRANDED ALTAIR.
SALVAGE OPERATIONS. ; HOPE OF REFLOATING TO-MORROW j i The Wilsons Cement Company's scow Alt air, which carried away her rudder and drifted ashore on Orewa Beach on July 10, has not been refloated yet. Mr. A. Henderson, of Auckland, with a number j of his employees, has been engaged salj vaging the vessel since Thursday. The ! operation has proved a greater task than I was expected, owing to the soft naturb !of the beach. The scow's coal cargo had to be discharged and the vessel lifted four ; feet out of the sand into which she had ; sunk. It is understood that everything is I now in order for launching and it is hoped ] to refloat the vessel to-morrow.
