THE TURKISH TREATY.
EVACUATION BY BRITAIN.
SOON AFTER RATIFICATION.
Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 6.15 p.m.) LONDON, July 19. The Prime Minister, Mr. Stanley Baldwin, announced in the House of Commons that if the Turkish treaty were signed on the lines reported from Lausanne Turkish territory would be evacuated within six weeks of ratification by Angora.

STANDING IN MESOPOTAMIA
A. and N.Z. WASHINGTON, July 19. Members of the Harding Administration have expressed satisfaction at the Lausanne settlement, especially regarding as an American diplomatic victory the.non-inclusion of the Turkish Petroleum Company's claims in the treaty. The United States is preparing to proceed separately in negotiation with Britain concerning the company's claims to a monopoly in the oilfields of Mesopotamia. It is understood that Mr. C. E. Hughes, Secretary of State, • feels gratified at. the .fact that; the treaty will assure the. open door in Mesoptqmia,|and that he is prepared to defeat any attempt to exclude Americans from' participation in development of these bilfieldc.
