BAD LANGUAGE AND ASSAULT
MAN SENT TO PRISON.
Charges of assault, obscene language and drunkenness were - made, against John Holmes, aged 43 (Mr. Adams), in the Police Court yesterday before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M. The evidence showed that accused came up to the Wellesley Street taxi-stand and went to one of the drivers, who was sitting in his car, and Invited him to come out and fight. He then opened the door of the car and used the language and struck the driver. The magistrate imposed a sentence of one month's imprisonment on the language charge. As accused was becoming a nuisance he 'was bound over in a surety of £100 to keep the peace for 12 months.
IMPRISONMENT FOR THEFT. Alfred Henry Grant, aged 30, was charged with the theft of a hat. Accused denied the theft, and stated that he went to a house to look for some stolen property. As no one heard the bell be walked in. , Accused was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment.
. CHARGE OF ASSAULT, On a charge of having assaulted Frederick Bennett by striking him with hie fist so as to cause actual bodily barm, Alfred lirophy was remanded for a week. Senior-Sergeant Rawle said the victim was in the hospital, it being not known whether or not his jaw/was broken. Bail was fixed at £50.
ALLEGED, BURGLARY AND THEFT.
Allegations of breaking and entering by day the premises of Wilfred Huia Cave at- Grey Lynn, and having stolen a piano and a quantity of furniture and effects, valued at £200, • were made against Thomas Henry Wise. He waa remanded till Thursday. MISCELLANEOUS CASES. For having been found on licensed premises on a Sunday, John David Keane was. fined ,j£2 and costs. Constable Robertson said he found defendant behind a door. The excuse was that he had gone to the hotel to get a dinner. Charges of having'failed to keep the terms of her probation orfffer and of having unlawfully entered licensed premises were made against Mary Ann Dizac. She was discovered in the act of drinking, although the terms of her order stated that she was to abstain from liquor. She said she was willing to go to Pakatoa Island, and was therefore committed. A fine of £3, in default seven days' imprisonment was imposed on Alexander Stewart (Mr. Feunell) for having committed a nuisance. •■
DAIRY.ING . PROSECUTIONS. For having an insanitary stockyard, Q. E. Thompson was fined 20s. Defendant said it was practically impossible to keep the yard clean during the recent continuous bad weather. The magistrate said it was a hard case, but the place had to be kept clean.
